When winter starts, the whole world changes. How about you? Do you like summer or winter better? Explain why.

What happens in winter?
Days are much shorter and nights are longer. It gets dark much earlier than in summer. It gets cold and it snows. Trees and plants stop growing in winter. Trees have no leaves. Many birds fly south, but some stay and hibernate. Other animals work hard to find some food and keep warm. It’s hard to believe that it’s summer in Australia!

Why we love winter
It isn’t as hot as in summer. Winter is the season for people who love the cold. We can wear warm clothes and stay at home in the dark evenings. It’s a perfect time to relax with a book, film or game. Winter walks are good to keep fit and a cup of hot chocolate or tea is the perfect ending. The sun rises much later than in summer so it is easy to see the beautiful sunrises. SNOW! Snow is fun for everyone. Snowball fights, making snowmen or just playing in the snow (or eating it) is fun. It’s also very nice to watch a blizzard from your sitting room with a fire in the fireplace. Don’t forget to watch Oscar Night and the Super Bowl, or go to a ball.

It’s freezing. Wear a warm jumper, coat, scarf, hat, everything.
